Following the sell-out success of their Christmas pantomime Freezin, the actors at Dumbarton People's Theatre are already gearing up to tread the boards in another production.

DPT will be performing Lovers by Irish playwright Brian Friel between February 27 and March 2 at Denny Civic Theatre.

The play, which is set in sixties rural Ireland, contrasts two younger lovers with two older lovers and Janette Barnes from the theatre group is sure the performance will be another big hit with audiences.

She told the Reporter: "It is an Irish play and will be popular. Panto is great and a lot of people enjoy it, but I like straightforward plays like this one because if it is a famous writer it is very thought-provoking trying to think about what they are getting at.

"We have done Brian Friel plays before - Dancing at Lughnasa, Communication Cord and Philadelphia Here I Come. They were all very successful and, hopefully, this will be the same."

The production was cast following a big turnout for the auditions which were held on January 8.

Rehearsals are already well under way, with a lot of lines to learn and the group practising three times per week.

She added: "The cast are experienced and I have no doubt they will make a good job. We also have two people performing who made their debut in Freezin, Chris Campbell and Eve Gallacher and another, Caroline Mead, who came along to audition for the first time."

Tickets for Lovers will, hopefully, go on sale at McDermid's Keystore on the High Street at the beginning of February.
