A monthly live music event in Dumbarton, which raises money for local causes and charities, has raised hundreds of pounds for a local parent and toddlers group.

The most recent Dumbarton Acoustic Music Night, which is organised by the owner of local record store Discography Music, Alistair Ferguson, donated £500 to the West Kirk Parent and Toddlers Group.

The event, which takes place on the second Friday of each month at St Augustine’s Church, brings together a wide variety of talented musicians for a night of performances, with money being collected at each event.

The nights usually feature six acts performing for around 20 or 30 minutes each.

Alistair Ferguson thanked all the musicians who took part in the most recent event on February 8.

They included Half Salud & Toast, Westport, Kerry Smith, Fading Blue Jeans, local busker Andrew Johnson, Denis Colman, Susan Reid and Wrong Direction.

The cash was handed on the night to Joan McLoone, who runs the toddlers group

It will put this money towards taking a group of 40 children to Heads of Ayr Farm where they can all enjoy a wonderful day out in the fresh air and feed and pet farm animals.

Alastair, whose shop is situated in the Bell Centre, said: “A huge thanks to all who performed on the night.

“Also, Michael Winton who has done our sound over the previous months and helped to make these nights happen.

“Everyone who performs is a volunteer, we just provide the venue in the church each month.

“Despite Storm Erik, we got a fantastic turnout which meant that we raised £500 which will go towards a summer day out for about 40 local young people.

“Thanks also to Margaret Ferguson and Jeanette Angus for their time and effort, which is greatly appreciated.”

The event has raised over £15,000 for local and Scottish causes such as CHAS over the past six-and-a-half years since they started.

Previous music nights have also raised cash for a defibrillator in the town, and supported local charities including Lennox Children’s Trust, Alzheimer Scotland, Vale of Leven Asperger’s & Autism Group, St Augustine’s Church and the Food For Thought group.
