Police in Dumbarton have confirmed there was no sexual assault on High Street at the weekend.
Officers from the Argyll & West Dunbartonshire Police Division took to social media to reassure residents after rumours of an alleged attack began swirling around the town.
On their Facebook page, the force said: "We can confirm that police received a report of a serious sexual assault around 2.25am on Sunday 10 March in the area of Dumbarton High Street. Significant enquiries have been undertaken and it has been established that no crime has been committed."
They provided no further details on Thursday's post.
