POLICE have issued a weather warning to drivers for Saturday as a mix of snow and rain is forecast to hit the area.

Most of Scotland is under a yellow warning from the Met Office for snow, with more disruptive snow over higher ground.

Police Scotland said the weather warning - lasting from 4am to 9pm on Saturday, March 16, could accumulate to 2-6cm above 200-300 metres, with more mixed snow and rain at lower levels.

They said travel "may be hazardous and extra caution should be exercised".

In a statement, the force said: "If you are travelling, you should ensure you and your vehicle are adequately prepared for the conditions making sure you have sufficient fuel and supplies such as warm clothing, food and water in the event you are delayed for several hours.

"Charge your mobile phone and plan your route as well as alternative routes."
