Another fast and furious round of games took place last week in the rugby festival organised by the West Dunbartonshire Active Schools team.

Eight teams battled for the honours, with St Michael’s taking first place and Braehead coming second.

This means St Michael’s and Braehead go on to compete at the final on Tuesday, March 26 at Clydebank Sports Hub where they will play against the top two schools from the Vale and top three from Clydebank.

The festival has a round robin format which means every school plays each other once.

An Active Schools spokeswoman said: “This was another great qualifier. It was great to see so many schools competing again this year.

“We are looking forward to the final. Last year the winners were Edinbarnet - this year let’s see a Dumbarton school bring home the trophy.”

The Active Schools team has said a big thanks to Ewan Todd from Loch Lomond Rugby Club for working with the S3 Dumbarton Academy sports leaders in the run up to the event, teaching them rugby skills and how to referee the games.

Ewan also delivered curricular rugby to the P6s across schools in Dumbarton in the lead up to the festival to get them prepared for it.

The results were: 1, St Michael’s; 2, Braehead; 3, Aitkenbar; 4, Knoxland; 5, St Kessog’s; 6, St Peter’s; 7, St Patrick’s; 8, Dalreoch.
