Pupils at Aitkenbar Primary have had the chance to explore what they would like to be when they grow up.

The school held a successful careers week last week which saw a variety of professionals from telecom engineers to an ex-fireman and play work practitioner come in to speak to the children.

It all culminated in a Dress for Success event at the end of the week, which gave pupils the opportunity dress up in the outfit of their dream job.

Head Teacher Christine Hutchison told the Reporter the careers week, which organised by pupil and family support worker John McKean and his colleague Emma McGinlay, was a big hit.

She said: “The children and staff at Aitkenbar have thoroughly enjoyed having the opportunity to learn about different jobs and roles in the working world.

“They have heard from a police officer, an army truck driver, an accountant and an Active Schools Co-Ordinator to name just a few.

“In particular the Dress for Success event, with pupils dressed up as the job they want to be when they get older, was a big success.

“The children have benefitted greatly from learning about the world of work and the week has provided them with ideas for their future.”
