A TEENAGE thug hurled abuse at his partner at their Dumbarton home while she was pregnant with their child, the town’s sheriff court has heard.

Patrick McArthur shouted, swore and acted aggressively towards his partner and her stepfather at the property in Stoneyflatt Road on October 24, and then behaved in a similar fashion towards police after leaving the property.

The 19-year-old appeared at Dumbarton Sheriff Court on Friday after pleading guilty to two counts of threatening or abusive behaviour.

Fiscal depute Meghan Glancey told the court McArthur and his partner had been in a relationship for six months on the date of the incident, while McArthur’s own lawyer said the pair were due to become parents in four weeks.

Ms Glancey said: “The accused became highly aggressive, calling the complainer a slut, a whore and a cow.

“The complainer’s stepfather entered the room to intervene, and the accused became aggressive towards him also, saying ‘you old b*****d, I’m going to kill you’.

“Police were called and he told officers to ‘f*** off’ and said he wasn’t going to f*****g talk to them’.”

Gail Campbell, defending, said the pair were still in a relationship.

She added: “He has had it reinforced to him that his liberty is essential if he is going to be involved in the child’s life.

“He can’t continue to behave like this.”

Sheriff John Hamilton told McArthur: “This was highly unpleasant behaviour.

“You’re 19, going on nine. You must begin to think about your attitude towards women.”

Sentence on McArthur was further deferred for an assessment of his suitability for a place on the PAIR programme, which works with people in West Dunbartonshire convicted of domestic abuse.
