Residents in Dumbarton and the Vale are being urged to rise to the challenge and sign up for this year's Loch Lomond 10K and fun run for kids.

The events are a continuation of the Vale of Leven 10K and fun run which have been held for the last thirty two years.

Hundreds of runners pounded the streets in sweltering conditions last June as they took part in the highly-popular run.

This year's event is organised by West Dunbartonshire Leisure Trust and will take place on Saturday, June 22, starting in the Moss O’ Balloch site at 10am.

The race is ideal for people who are doing their first ever 10k as well as providing a competitive setting for experienced runners.

The new and scenic route is flat and fast with stunning views of Loch Lomond.

It will use paths within Balloch Castle Country Park as well as the cycle path along the River Leven providing a race relatively free from traffic.

Every runner that signs up for the 10k will be provided with a technical event t-shirt, bespoke race medal, goodie bag with gifts, water, snacks and discount vouchers for local services and attractions and a prize list for individual winners and teams as well as spot prizes.

To receive your race pack by post you will need to enter by 10am on Monday, June 10, however, online entry will continue to be available until 10am on Thursday, June 20.

The fun run, meanwhile, will also start in the Moss O’ Balloch area, with the oldest age group (P7) going first at 9am.

The event is open to parents with babies (in buggies) up to primary 7 aged children. Children may be accompanied by an adult during the run.

The course distance is approximately 1mile for the older age groups and there is a shorter route for younger participants.

The route is all off road and goes through Balloch Castle Country Park and will be heavily marshalled.

Any children who have not already registered via their school need to register at the WD Leisure Gazebo between 8am to 8.45am on the day.
