A YOUNG YouTuber and Dumbarton fan is aiming to help the club reach out to more supporters his age by producing content for Sons TV.

Thirteen-year-old Ben Lavery now has his own section on Sons’ YouTube channel called Young Sons TV, which he hopes will encourage more kids and teens to get along and support their local team.

On Saturday, Ben interviewed the mascot, top scorer Dom Thomas and Celtic and Dumbarton legend Murdo McLeod and will, hopefully, have his video uploaded by Thursday on the Sons TV channel.

In general, his section will feature a range of content, including skills challenges with players, match day blogs, match highlights, manager and chairman interviews, man-of-the-match interviews and player spotlight interviews with quick fire questions about football and other fun topics such as “who has the worse dress sense in the changing room?” and “who is the biggest prankster in the team?”.

The second-year Our Lady and St Patrick’s High pupil told the Reporter: “I started making YouTube videos and had my own channel which I used to film vlogs with my friends, family holiday vlogs and football vlogs.

“One day I came up with the idea of putting my two favourite hobbies of making YouTube videos and football together.

“I approached Dumbarton FC with this idea and they really liked it and thought it was a great way of being in touch with fans around my age.

“I’m really looking forward to getting started and to interviewing the players and manager Jim Duffy but also, hopefully, giving everyone who watches my video a different look at our local team from a young fan’s point of view.”

Along with Ben, other youngsters have also been working hard recently to drum up support for Dumbarton.

Earlier this year, a video of young fans, waving flags, banging a drum and showing vocal support for the side went viral on social media.

The group, dubbed the Dumbarton Ultras gained widespread praise for opting to turn out to support their local team over bigger sides in the West of Scotland.

Ben also hopes to try and do an interview with these young fans in the coming weeks.

The Dumbarton United Blacks 05 player initially brought his YouTube idea to Dumbarton via his team’s sponsors C & G systems who sponsor Sons’ stadium.

His content will now be supported by the firm, a local railway company.

Dave Gordon, managing director of C&G Systems, added: “We have spoken with the club and David Jenkinson from Sons TV who has been delighted to help.

“It is important for us as the club’s sponsor and a business in the local community to support every effort in trying to engage and attract a new era of Dumbarton supporters."
