Schools, businesses, community groups and sports teams in West Dunbartonshire are being urged to get together for fun breakfast events to raise money for Scotland’s children.

The Big Scottish Breakfast will be held on Friday, September 6 to raise money for the STV Children’s Appeal.

MasterChef winner Gary Maclean, senior chef lecturer at City of Glasgow College, and STV weather man Sean Batty, visited Glasgow project PEEK to launch this year's campaign.

The project, which is supported by Appeal funding, offers play, creative learning and volunteering opportunities for children and young people, and their families, in disadvantaged communities across the north east of Glasgow.

Gary said: "As a father of five and an educator in food, I have seen first-hand the difference a healthy breakfast makes.

"Young people have a much sharper focus and having breakfast has been proven to make a huge difference in productivity and concentration in class.

“Too many kids go without breakfast and I feel every child in Scotland should be able to access a healthy breakfast each day and every day."

Sean said: "I've had a brilliant time supporting the Big Scottish Breakfast over the last few years and I'm really excited to help launch the 2019 campaign alongside Gary."

Groups throughout West Dunbartonshire are now being urged to arrange their own Big Scottish Breakfast on September 6.

Since launching in 2011, the STV Children's Appeal has raised over £19 million, with 1,102 grants awarded to projects across all 32 local authority areas in Scotland - providing much needed support to over 79,000 children and young people.

The money raised is distributed to provide practical help like food and warm clothes, create opportunities for training and employability, and enable social and emotional support for those who need it most.

The Big Scottish Breakfast is sponsored by Wholesale Domestic Bathrooms.
