ScotRail has reported "significant improvements" in punctuality at its Dumbarton stations.

The company said its suburban west area, which includes the Helensburgh to Edinburgh line, has seen the best levels of punctuality in 18 months.

Dumbarton East, Dumbarton Central, Dalreoch and Cardross stations are on this line.

In a statement, ScotRail said: "Nine out of 10 trains ran on time in the most recent performance period as customers benefited from the best punctuality on Scotland’s Railway since September last year.

"Across Scotland, 89.9 per cent of ScotRail trains met the rail industry standard public performance measure (PPM), arriving at their destination within four minutes and 59 seconds of their timetabled arrival time, having called at all scheduled stations.

"As ScotRail’s commitment to delivering improvements for customers continues, the four-week period (1 April – 27 April) also provided the best day of performance in eight months with 94.4 per cent of trains achieving PPM.

"ScotRail is now running more than 2,400 trains every week day which is an increase of 11 per cent from 10 years ago, as Scotland’s Railway continues to grow faster than any other in the UK.

"This means that the rail operator now provides more than 97 million customer journeys each year."

Alex Hynes, ScotRail Alliance managing director, said: “Improving the service for our customers is what everyone across the ScotRail Alliance is working flat out to deliver, and it is particularly good news that we have delivered the best punctuality for our customers since September last year.

“We know that we still need to improve, but I am confident that the investment we are making across Scotland’s Railway will help us to give our customers the service they expect and deserve.”
