THE Royal Navy's Faslane-based 'field gun' team will stage their annual public run in Helensburgh on Thursday afternoon.
The event, which will take place at the car park next to Helensburgh Swimming Pool at around 4.30pm on May 23, sees the HMS Neptune Field Gun team simulate the Naval Brigade’s heroic mission to relieve the besieged British Army during the Second Boer War.
The impressive show of strength is part of the team's preparations for the Navy's annual Field Gun Competition, taking place at HMS Collingwood in Hampshire on Saturday, June 1.
The team's preparation for both Thursday's run and next month's competition has included a 52-hour running, lifting and rowing endurance event in the HMS Neptune Supermess at Faslane, in aid of the Royal Navy and Royal Marines Charity and the Defence National Rehabilitation Centre, with a total of £3,000 split between the two good causes.
Thursday's public run on the Helensburgh seafront is free to attend and all spectators are welcome.
