PUPILS, staff, parents and friends of Cardross Primary made light of some decidedly un-summery weather to make sure the school’s annual gala day still went with a bang.

Grey clouds and persistent showers may have threatened to make Saturday’s celebration in the school’s grounds something of a damp squib – but they’re made of sterner stuff down Cardross way, and thanks to the enthusiasm of everyone involved in the event, a good time was had by everyone who took part.

Attractions at the gala day, which was organised by the Cardross Primary School Association (CPSA), included a barbecue, a bouncy castle, an ‘inflatable super hero’ run, a teddy bears’ grotto, sweet and savoury treats, a Beat the Goalie competition, a chance to soak the teacher – or make them wetter than the rain already had, at any rate – and the opportunity to browse a host of stalls with links to the school or the wider Cardross community and to help them raise funds for their work.

After the dust had settled, the CPSA said in a statement on their Facebook page: “Wow – what a day!

“A huge thank you to all who came out and joined us at the gala despite the iffy weather.

“A huge thanks to all the volunteers who helped set up, run and clean up at the gala, donated home baking, raffle prizes and much more, and a massive thanks to the stall holders who, despite the weather, turned up and hopefully had a good day.

“Also a big thanks to Ridings Sawmill and Babcock for their very generous sponsorship, and all the companies who kindly donated prizes to our fabulous raffle.

“Without all of you we wouldn’t be able to run this type of event to raise money for the school we are so proud of.”

And the organisers weren’t alone in hailing the success of the day, with stallholder Beth Lewis adding: “Thank you to everyone for the help and support during the day. I had a fantastic time being a stall holder.

“I would say [it’s] the best gala I have attended! Will definitely be back next year if I am invited.”
