A MAN has been arrested in connection with an alleged attempted murder which left another man in a "critical" condition.

The pair were involved in a "verbal altercation" outside the Captain James Lang pub on Dumbarton's High Street yesterday.

One of the men then attacked the other.

As a result of the incident, which was reported to Police Scotland at 2pm, a 55-year-old was taken to Royal Alexandra Hospital in Paisley before being transferred to Queen Elizabeth University Hospital, where he has been described by medics as being in a "critical condition".

A 25-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the attack.

Officers are now appealing for witnesses to come forward, as they attempt to clear up what happened in the lead up to the assault.

Detective sergeant Gordon Murray from Clydebank police office, said: “We are currently carrying out enquiries to establish exactly what has happened here and are appealing for anyone with any information to come forward.

“The street would have been busy at this time of day and we know that there were a number of people in the area with their mobile phones out at the time.

"We are asking these people who may have footage of the incident to get in touch with us.”

A spokesperson said: “We received a call at 1327 hours on Thursday June 20 to attend an incident on High Street in Dumbarton.

"We dispatched one ambulance and a paramedic response unit to the scene.

"We transported one male patient in his 50s to the Royal Alexandra Hospital in Paisley.”
