Dumbarton manager Stevie Farrell has started his Summer recruitment process with the addition of five players in the space of just three days – with more on the way.

Arriving at The Rock are Blair Malcolm, Callum Wilson, Tony Wallace, Carlo Pignatiello and Mark Durnan.

Malcolm and Wilson arrive from Albion Rovers who were relegated from the SPFL after losing out to Lowland League champions Spartans in a two-legged play-off.

Wallace checks in from Annan Athletic having helped the Galabank side gain promotion to League One, beating Dumbarton on the way to the final where they overcame Clyde.

Pignatiello joins from Morton after cutting a two-year deal with the Cappielow side short due to a work opportunity and Durnan was most recently with Alloa Athletic in the Championship.

Farrell is understood to have at least three more new faces signed up that will go be announced next week as he prepares for another season in League Two.

Left-sided midfielder or defender Malcolm was Farrell’s first recruit of the Summer with the 26-year-old signing a one-year deal at The Rock.

He featured 41 times for the Cliftonhill side last season and caught the eye against Sons on more than one occasion with his toughness in the middle of the park as well as his ability on the ball.

Wilson is now in his second spell with the club having previously played four times in 2020 after his release from Partick Thistle.

He then went on to join Albion Rovers where he made 80 appearances across three seasons and scored nine times from midfield.

Wallace also signs up for his second stint in G82 after starting his career at the club 11 years ago.

The 32-year-old was a squad player for Sons as a youngster between 2010 and 2012 but burst onto the scene with three goals in four playoff games to help his side gain promotion to the Championship.

He then moved on to full-time football with Morton before turning out for the likes of East Fife, Clyde and Annan Athletic, where he made 110 appearances across two spells.

Wallace can operate anywhere across the midfield and brings goals and assists to the team from that area with 10 contributions last season.

Pignatiello has also appeared in a Dumbarton jersey in the past, just two seasons ago where he was named Young Player of the Year and Players’ Player of the Year.

He was on loan from Livingston in his first spell but has committed his future to Sons for at least two seasons after penning a contract.

The 23-year-old can play at right-back or in midfield and made 25 appearances in the Championship for Morton last season.

Durnan completed a busy Bank Holiday Monday of signings for Farrell as he completed a move after leaving Alloa.

A commanding centre-back, the 30-year-old brings a wealth of experience with Dundee United, Dunfermline Athletic and Queen of the South all on his CV.

Durnan strengthens the backline after the disappointment of losing Gregor Buchanan, who signed a contract with divisional rivals Stenhousemuir on Saturday.
