A pensioner is in hospital in a "serious condition" after she was knocked down by a car in Alexandria.

Police received reports of a crash involving a car and a pedestrian on Bank Street shortly before 4pm on Saturday.

Officers confirmed a 76-year-old woman was taken to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital where her condition is described as "serious".

Local residents reported that the road was cordoned off for several hours as crews dealt with the crash.

An investigation into the crash remains ongoing. 

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “We received a report of a crash involving a car and a pedestrian on the B857 Bank Street, Alexandria, around 3.50pm on Saturday, December 16, 2023.

“Emergency services attended and the 76-year-old female pedestrian was taken to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital where her condition is described as serious.

“Enquiries into the crash are ongoing.”
