A NIGHT out at the pub ended with a man being stuck on the head with a glass bottle.

Neil Campbell, 35, of Hawthorn Avenue, Dumbarton, appeared at the town's sheriff court last Tuesday on indictment.

He admitted assaulting a man on December 30 last year at the Laughing Fox public house, Bridge Street, Alexandria, by striking him on the head with a glass bottle, to the victim's severe injury and permanent disfigurement.

Fiscal Depute Tom Bowman told the court how a group had met up and were drinking in the Highlander Club at 10pm and then went to the Fox because it was open until 1am.

Mr Bowman said: "At that time they were again drinking alcohol but there was no animosity.

"The barman called last orders and all left the bar. The complainer and the witness and accused went out for a cigarette where there was an altercation between the complainer and accused.

"This escalated and the complainer threw a punch at the accused.

"The barman became aware of a commotion and it was 'handbags' He called on them to stop.

"The complainer came back into the premises and he was aware of the accused standing behind him. The accused struck him on the right cheek and the complainer saw glass in the accused's hand."

Dumbarton Sheriff Court was also told how the accused left, followed by a witness.

Police were contacted and complainer was taken to the Royal Alexandra Hospital, Paisley.

Later, the accused was detained at his home address.

Mr Bowman said: "It was noted he had a cut on his right hand, near his thumb. He was cautioned and charged and made no reply.

"The complainer had two lacerations on his face, one close to his eye.

"A shard of glass was removed and the injuries will result in permanent scarring."

His defence solicitor told the court how his client has now moved to London.

Sheriff Maxwell Hendry said: "All I can say is that every sentence option will have to be considered-and that includes a sentence of sending

you to prison."

Sentence was deferred until Thursday, November 3 in order to obtain a criminal justice social work report and a restriction of liberty assessment.

Campbell's bail was continued.
