ENQUIRIES are ongoing following a suspicious fire at a flat in Alexandria last weekend.

Detectives in Clydebank are appealing for information after a call was received at around 3am on Sunday, November 13, by police that a flat on fire at 61 Wilson Street, Alexandria.

The property was fortunately empty at the time of the incident but neighbours were forced to leave their homes temporarily while firefighters battled the blaze.

It has been revealed through initial enquiries that the fire was set deliberately and a joint investigation is underway.

Detective Constable Jody Campbell said: “At this stage of our enquiry, we don’t know why this property has been targeted or why anyone would deliberately set fire to someone’s home.

"We are working to establish the circumstances and I am appealing to local residents in the area to contact us.

"I appreciate that the incident occurred in the early hours of this morning when the majority of people would have been asleep, but I am asking them to think about whether they saw or heard something which seemed a little odd or suspicious, if you have any information, please do pass it on.”

There are no further details as of yet and the level of damage is unknown but detectives are carrying out door-to-door enquiries in the area to obtain information which could assist the investigation.
