CHILDREN from primary and secondary schools in West Dunbartonshire had some 'wheely' good fun during a mountain bike event at Balloch Park.

A healthy number of them headed along on what proved to be a bright, warm and sunny afternoon to negotiate some testing courses laid out by the active schools co-ordinators.

The event was open to all pupils from P5 to S6 and the format of the race depended on each child's individual age.

In the end, though, everyone was a winner because the event was designed to get children out and about at the weekend and get them active.

A spokesperson for West Dunbartonshire Active Schools said: "Congratulations to all the winners and a big thank you to all that attended and the volunteers that helped at the WDL Mountain Biking competition at Balloch Park."

The medal winners were as follows: (P5)- 1st Alistair Galloway, 2nd Arryn Embleton, 3rd Fraser Mclaughlin, (P6/7)- 1st Thomas Inglis, 2nd Oscar Ferguson, 3rd Cailin Galloway, (S1)-1st Jennifer Inglis.

The spokesperson added: "What a great day for our schools Mountain Biking event at Balloch Country Park. Well done all the riders."

It's not the only activity the busy active schools co-ordinators have been involved in recently.

Last week they were at Vale of Leven Cricket Club, showing children the finer points of the game.

A spokesperson added: "Thank you to Knoxland, Aitkenbar, St Patrick's, St Michael's, St Ronan's and Christie Park Primary Schools for attending!"
