A talented Alexandria photographer has been named the winner of West Dunbartonshire's Picture of the Year competition.

Eilidh Macdonald, 21, won the prize of £200 and a day's training with local photographer Stewart Cunningham from Clydebank company Great Scot Photography.

Eilidh's stunning shot of frosted rocks over Loch Lomond won the award from a shortlist of ten pictures which were put up for public vote via the Council's Facebook and Instagram pages, as well as via email.

In total, the images were rated over 1,250 times, with the judges for the competition praising all of the entrants for their 'sharp, colourful, creative and striking' images.

The winning image won ahead of second placed 'The Autumn Look' - a shot of a couple walking through Balloch Park - and third placed 'Go With the Flow' - a picturesque image of the waterfalls at the Antonine Wall in Clydebank.

Responding to the award win, Eilidh said: “I am really thrilled to win this competition as the standard of the shortlisted pictures was really high. I love taking pictures and the picture of the frosty rocks was taken just before sunset and I love it. I am very grateful for the prize money which I will use to buy a new lens for my camera.

“I’m looking forward to seeing my picture on public display and I would encourage people to go along and see the wide range of great pictures which were submitted to the competition.”

The competition was run by West Dunbartonshire Council in association with West College Scotland and the winning image - along the other ten shortlisted entries - will go on public display in a touring exhibition, as well as appearing at libraries across the area later in the year.

Bailie Denis Agnew, Convener of Communications, Museums and Cultural Development, said: “Congratulations to Eilidh on her winning photograph which shows the natural beauty we have on our doorstep here in West Dunbartonshire. I would to thank everyone who took part in the competition and also our partner West College Scotland for their continued support in this project.”
