A MAN has been jailed for four months after being convicted of the domestic abuse of his ex-partner.

Steven Burke, 45, of Poplar Drive, committed the offence on May 27, 2017, at 174 Ladyton, Bonhill, Alexandria.

Dumbarton Sheriff Court heard on Friday how Burke behaved in a threatening or abusive manner likely to cause fear and alarm. He was shouting and swearing and acted in an aggressive manner towards his ex-partner.

Fiscal depute Aga Mathieson said: "They were in a relationship for 21 years and had two children. They separated two years ago.

"An argument developed that evening. He became aggressive and angry and was asked to leave."

Lawyer Tom Brown went on: "The relationship is over. He has been in custody since May 3, which is the same as a three months sentence.

Jailing Burke, of Clydebank, Sheriff William Gallacher said: "You have a terrible criminal record. You pleaded guilty and on balance deserve the discount. You will go to prison for four months."

The sentence was backdated to May 30.
