CLUBBERS could have an extra hour's drinking time on Fridays and Saturdays in Dumbarton town centre- if bosses at a nightclub today get the green light to extend their licensing hours.

Cheers nightclub, in Brewers Lane, are proposing to increase the amount of time they can sell alcohol by one hour on each night.

And the move could mean that clubbers could drink right up to 4am at the weekends.

As things currently stand the nightclub's core licensing hours on Friday and

Saturdays run until 3am.

The proposal will be discussed by West Dunbartonshire Licensing Board at a meeting in Garshake Road, today (Tuesday, September 19.)

However, the proposals have been met with opposition from both Police Scotland and West Dunbartonshire Health and Social Care Partnership.

Exact details over their opposition has not been disclosed, though, as the information has been redacted from official papers published on West Dunbartonshire Council's website.

Spokesperson for Dumbarton East and Central Community Council Dorothy Heron said: "Our members really have no objection to this application.

"In the past I don't think the extended hours brought about any more unsocial behaviour.

"It comes down to choice for customers in how much alcohol they wish to consume."

She added: "We will have to wait and see if the Council grant the extra hours."

The Reporter did approach the club for a response to their application but did not receive one at the time of going to press.
