LIFE-saving defibrillators have been delivered to two education centres in West Dunbartonshire following a generous donation by Rotarians.

The two defibrillators were funded by The Rotary Club of Dumbarton following a talk given to members by Sheenah Nelson, a Heartstart co-ordinator.

And thanks to the donation the life-saving equipment will be installed at Carousel Nursery, Dumbarton and within Kilpatrick School, Mountblow Road, Dalmuir.

Sheenah said: "The Rotary Club of Dumbarton very generously funded these two life saving machines for the community.

"These funds were raised from a very successful Sportsman Dinner which was held earlier in the year.

"This is just another example of the work of Rotarians making a difference in our communities."

Sheenah was also impressed with the facilities on site at Kilpatrick School, adding: "After the presentation we were taken on a tour of this new facility by PE Teacher Debra Gardner.

"We couldn’t fail to be impressed and admire the wonderful work that is being done in Kilpatrick School by both pupils and staff."

Earlier this month The Reporter told how a new public awareness campaign is to be launched in West Dunbartonshire to highlight the potentially life-saving benefits of public defibrillators.

Councillors agreed during a meeting at Garshake that the local authority would look into the possibility into putting other AEDs (Automated External Defibrillators) into other council-owned buildings.

Claire Rowan, from Carousel Nursery, said: "We are absolutely delighted to participate in the defibrillator programme with Heart Start and Dumbarton Rotary.

"Carousel Nurseries Ltd has very recently achieved the Investors in People Health & Wellbeing Award to add to our Gold Investors in People and Investors in Young People Awards and the siting of a defibrillator at the nursery fits very well with our support of healthy staff and healthy children as well as the wider community."
