SINGING sensations ScotSoul struck the right note when they were able to help a Haldane baby who is battling a serious condition.

The quintet, who reached the final of BBC's One's 'Pitch Battle' earlier this summer, performed two gigs at the Denny Civic Theatre last month.

During those events they organised a raffle in aid of Rocco Crawford, who is affected by a condition known as Flat Head Syndrome (severe plagiocephaly.)

Rocco, who turns one later this month, needs a specialised helmet in order that his head and skull develops properly as he grows.

And members of the West Dunbartonshire-based musical outfit, who include Des and Louise McFarlane, James Smart, Natalie James, and Shirley McAlpine, organised a raffle to help raise funds for Rocco's specialist equipment.

The good news is that £500 was raised from the proceeds of the raffle which will go a long way to securing the equipment little Rocco needs.

Mum Nikki explained the background to Rocco's battle, saying: "Rocco is our twin one, born on 28/10/16. He was the smaller twin.

"Both Rocco and Romeo were breech.

"Rocco basically had Romeo's weight on him, this could be why he has this condition.

"But all I know is that my son has a head shape that will affect him in life.

"Simply wearing a helmet to ride a bike could pose as potentially impossible for him.

"We went to the NHS and received physio which had no positive impact for Rocco, but apparently they don't fund these helmets."

Apparently, only one per cent of infants have severe asymmetry or head width.

Nikki added: "I'm not one for asking for anything, but this is for our son.

"Please help us raise these funds so our Rocco won't need to have his head shape affect him for his whole life."

And members of ScotSoul were on hand last week to present a cheque to the family.

Band member Natalie said: "This is a local boy from the area and it was nice to do something local.

"This (the equipment) is not something granted on the NHS, the family have to save for it, so we just thought it would be great to help make a contribution.

"And it was great to meet him too, we got loads of cuddles and smiles and we also got to meet the whole family."

The band would like to thank everyone who helped raise the funds.

Flat head syndrome is the name given to the condition when part of a baby’s head becomes flattened due to continued pressure on one spot.

Nikki and George have set-up a just giving page where they hope to raise more than £2,000 for ongoing treatment.
