A BOOZE fuelled Alexandria man who went to a caravan park and launched a brick at a windscreen of a caravan his ex partner was in has been jailed for six months.

Derek McGregor, 47, of Swanson Road, pleaded guilty at Dumbarton Sheriff Court on Friday to breaching a bail order imposed on him at the court on October 23, banning him from contacting or approaching his former partner in any way. He broke the court ban just six days after it was put in place.

He also admitted acting in a threatening or abusive manner likely to cause a reasonable person to suffer fear and alarm towards the woman, by shouting and swearing and acting in an aggressive manner. He made threats of violence and threw a brick at her caravan, causing damage. He also pleaded guilty to being involved in the abuse of his ex-partner.

Prosecutor Craig Wainwright said: “The accused and victim had been in a relationship for 20 years, and had separated one week earlier. At 3.30pm on October 29, the woman had been in a caravan park in Dennystoun Forge Dumbarton, and was asleep. She was awoken by an altercation with McGregor outside. He was asked to leave and was escorted from the park by members of the family. Police were contacted. He left the park.

“At 4.20pm the woman was in the caravan of her mother. They were watching television. They saw McGregor approaching with a rock in his hand.

“He threw it and smashed a windscreen and police were contacted. He became hostile towards his ex partner shouting ‘f*** your dead mother and f*** your dead father.’ and ‘lick my a***.’ He continued to be verbally abusive.

“He then called her sister ‘a m*****’. When police arrived they found him under the influence of drink and slurring his words.

“Police were aware he was on bail and was arrested.

“On his way to the police station, in the police car, he was shouting and swearing at police officers, which was heard by members of the public, who were nearby.”

Defence lawyer Lauren Kerr said: “He fully accepts he did not deal with matters appropriately. His behaviour was unacceptable and very much regrets it.

“He consumed alcohol, went to the caravan and consumed more and returned. He was foolish and has a difficulty with alcohol, which he has had for sometime.

“He is currently subject to a community payback order.”

Sheriff Simon Pender told McGregor: “Given your record and the nature of the charges and you have previous convictions for domestic offences, there is no alternative to a custodial sentence.”

McGregor was jailed for six months, backdated to October 31.
