One of the biggest days in the local calendar took place over the weekend as walkers in kilts, costumes and bright colours pounded the roads for the Glasgow Kiltwalk, raising money for a series of charitable causes.

Over seven thousand walkers of all ages and abilities took part in the event, with three walk distances finishing up in the Kiltwalk Village in Moss O'Balloch Park on the banks of Loch Lomond, with entertainment from groups including the Red Hot Chilli Pipers keeping tired walkers entertained right up until 10pm.

The walkers snaked their way through Clydebank, Dumbarton, Bowling, Alexandria and finally Balloch from the start line in Glasgow Green, with participants demonstrating their support for causes including Balloch hospice CHAS and the Kiltwalk's own official charity, the STV Children's Appeal.

Sunday's event is the first of four Kiltwalks across the country, with others due to take place in Aberdeen, Edinburgh and Dundee, with all four events expected to raise a total of £1m for the walkers' charities.

Volunteers were also praised, with event sponsor Sir Tom Hunter promising to donate £1.10 to the Kiltie Volunteer's individual chosen charities for every hour donated to help with the walkers.
