Energetic pupils at Christie Park Primary in Alexandria were getting in touch with the wide world of sport recently as it hosted its 'Fun-Fab-Try Day' event.

The event saw every pupil from across the various age groups get involved in a series of taster sessions offered by eight sports clubs, with each club offering a 20-minute session for pupils to try the sport and potentially find an unknown sporting talent or passion, as well as engaging with an active lifestyle outside of school.

The clubs involved in the event were FC Argyle, Glasgow Gaels Gaelic Football Club, Vale of Leven Cricket Club, Loch Lomond Rugby Club, Caledonian Juniors Hockey Club, Dumbarton Harp Netball, West Dunbartonshire Gymnastics Club and Monaghan Taekwondo.

The event was run in concert between the school's Sports Committee and Active Schools co-ordinator Adam Gibson.

Reflecting on the day, Mr Gibson said: "The event went really well and the clubs were all keen to get involved and have greater participation in their sports, as well as numbers through their doors.

"It's something that I'd like to repeat and take around other schools if that's possible and it was helpful in creating links between ourselves and the various clubs."

Elizabeth Campbell, principal teacher at Christie Park Primary, added: "We're always to engage our pupils in sporting activity and it's something that we'll definitely be hoping to repeat and expand in coming years.

"In the future, we'll try to get other clubs involved and not just keep it local, as well as maybe having some disability clubs involved to make it more inclusive.

"We are a school which has a very high participation rate and run a series of clubs, with some classes already reach 100 per cent activity rates. There's just a small core group to get involved in something which we can then set up a club around or get them involved outside school."
