A popular folk evening to raise money for the restoration of the historic Maid of the Loch steamship is to be revisited after a popular first event last month.

Dumbarton folk band The Midgies are once again to headline the evening, and will be supported on the evening on Friday (June 16) by AGM, with the event running from 7pm until late.

The band, led by dance callers Gordon Ross - who is also the band’s lead vocalist - and John MacGregor, are hugely experienced performers, having played ceilidhs, weddings and other corporate events all over the UK, as well as in 15 countries worldwide, including Egypt, Kuwait, Sweden and South Korea.

The gig will see the Midgies return to the Maid by popular demand after a big crowd gathered for the last event, set up to get the ship sailing on Loch Lomond, with tickets for the event costing £10 and all proceeds to the fundraising campaign.

A spokeswoman for the Maid of the Loch said: "The band are helping to raise money for the restoration of Maid of the Loch with events each month this summer. We cannot thank them enough for their support!"

Our first event in May was a great success and we hope to build on this by reaching out to the local community and beyond in the hope we can encourage people to get involved with our efforts to get the Maid sailing again."

The tickets for the event are available from the Maid of the Loch Pier Office or at the on-board cafe, and also by phoning 07484 918659, with those interested urged to reserve their tickets quickly due to the popularity of the show.
