THE Co-op is serving a new-look store in Balloch following a £1.4 million overhaul that has created four new jobs for local people.

The revamped Carrochan Road store opened its doors last Friday after the major makeover including self-service tills in a bid to improve service times.

It is also carrying a new and improved celebration and greetings card range along with a “community room” that is open to any local good causes or organisations who wish to use it.

The store also launched a series of funding ideas to boost local good causes.

Among the recipients will be the 2nd Vale of Leven Brownies, Alexandria Armed Forces Veterans Association and Riverside Church Sunday School – through the Co-op’s Membership scheme.

Members receive a five per cent reward when buying own-branded products, and the Co-op donates a further one per cent to local good causes.

David MacDonald, store manager, told the Reporter: “We are delighted to be undertaking such a significant investment in Balloch and we’re confident that the improvements will help us to better serve the community.

“It’s an exciting time for the whole team.”

Alan Campbell, regional manager, said: “The Co-op is moving forward with a clear purpose and momentum.

“Our ambition is to ensure the store is a local hub, a real asset for the community. We also want shoppers to know that they can become a co-owner and member of their Co-op.

“Our members make a difference locally and simply by swiping their membership card when they shop with us they are raising much needed funding for organisations in their area who contribute to improving local life.”
