AN amateur photographer from Bonhill has captured a striking image of Loch Lomond Shores from the sky.

Alan Caldwell, pictured with his Drone in the Sky, has shared several photographs with the Reporter over the past year.

He took up the hobby for enjoyment and he often shares images which show off well-known landmarks in a new light.

Alan told the Reporter: “It’s always good to see an image shared with a wider audience.

“We live in such an amazing and scenic place sometimes we’re all a bit guilty of taking it for granted.

“My photography is purely for fun. It’s a great way to unwind and appreciate your surroundings.”

Alan also runs a family photo booth business OMG Booth Ltd, but he said there’s no call for the drone there.

He captured the aerial image of Loch Lomond Shores using a DJI Phantom 3 Advanced Quadcopter after receiving permission from Lomond Shores staff.

Alan added it was taken early in the morning when there is hardly anyone around.

He said: “Drones receive lots of bad publicity these days due to irresponsible users, so it’s important people using them operate them safely and within the rules.”

Alan added: “It was a calm day with no wind, my main concern was to keep an eye trained on the seagulls as they tend to attack the drone for some reason.

“From a photography perspective, the Quadcopter is like having a tripod in the sky. It allows you access to shots that were previously the territory of the ‘big boys’.

“Unfortunately the recent weather has kept the drone firmly on the ground. It doesn’t like wind and rain.”
