A BONHILL OAP who impregnated a 15-year-old girl decades ago has been put on the sex offenders register as he faces a lengthy prison sentence.

The jury at Dumbarton Sheriff Court took less than two hours to find Norman Duncan, 70, unanimously guilty of a series of charges, as victims and their supporters sobbed in the public benches.

Sheriff Mungo Bovey QC remanded Duncan in custody while reports are prepared for his sentencing.

One of Duncan's victims said "He's getting the jail" as her abuser was led down to the cells.

Duncan, of Ladyton Estate, was convicted on six charges relating to four girls aged between eight and 15, all in the 1960s and 1970s.

He impregnated a girl aged 15 who later ran away from home and left the baby with relatives. Though the baby died months later, DNA evidence extracted from a blood sample taken after birth was produced at court confirming Duncan was the father.

Duncan was also convicted of using lewd, indecent and libidinous practices towards three other girls aged around five, 12 and 14. The jury found a charge of kissing a girl under the age of 16 on the lips as not proven.

The court heard evidence from three of the victims during the eight-day trial. The girl impregnated by Duncan has never been heard from since she ran away.

One of the women, whose identity is protected by law, said in evidence: "When I was in the bedroom and he was touching me, I don't know how it ended but I had a sensation of blackness and it's that blackness that's engulfing me, that comes as a flashback. I just know I have experienced it a few times.

"I can only remember the sensations. I have no desire to remember anything else. I don't think I can adequately explain the sensation but it's terrifying."

Duncan will be sentenced on October 19.
