PLANS to build 12 houses on a former farm in Bonhill have been submitted to the local authority.

The proposals relate to the building of 12 new houses and associated parking at the former Napierston Farm, in Northfield Road, Bonhill.

Behind the plan is Argyle Homes (Bonhill) Ltd and their proposals will be put under the microscope during a meeting of the West Dunbartonshire Council planning committee, who will meet on Wednesday, December 21.

A report to go before members of the planning committee states: "Full planning permission is sought for the erection of 12 houses comprising a mixture of semi-detached, detached and terraced properties.

"The houses would be either two or three bedroom properties for private ownership.

"Three terraced houses would front onto Napierston Road whilst the remainder of the houses would front onto the new access road."

If approved the terraced houses would be "staggered" to reflect the curve of Napierston Road and provide a frontage to

Napierston Road.

It's also understood that each property within the development would have a minimum of two off street parking spaces and a private garden.

The houses would all be of two storeys, with either a gabled or a hipped roof, while external finishing materials would primarily consist of concrete roof tiles, render and facing brick.

There are, however, some concerns over the proposed development as a report states: "Two representations have been received in relation to this application.

"One representation is from Bonhill and Dalmonach Community Council, which supports the principle of a residential development on this site but raises various comments and concerns.

"The other representation is from a local resident who objects to the proposal."

The issues raised in the two representations includes the possibility of "overdevelopment", 'insufficient' parking for any "future growth" in car ownership, houses fronting Napierstion road are likely to give rise to on-street

parking at this location and the area is naturally wet land with a "history of flooding."

However the report also points out the plus points of a housing development in the area, saying: "The application site is brownfield land in the urban area which has been vacant since Napierston Farm was demolished a number of years ago.

"Redevelopment of this area for residential purposes would contribute towards the regeneration of the surrounding area and would be consistent with policies of the adopted and proposed development plans.

"It is therefore considered that the principle of the proposed residential development is acceptable, and that the main issues for consideration in this application are the design and layout of the development and technical matters."
