A MAN flew into a rage and berated the new partner of his ex during an incident in a Dumbarton street.

David Darroch, 34, of Napier Crescent, Dumbarton, appeared for sentencing at Dumbarton Sheriff Court on Tuesday, March 14.

He previously admitted that on December 16 2016, at Hill Street Square, Dumbarton, he did behave in a threatening or abusive manner likely to cause fear or alarm in that he did act in an aggressive manner, shout, swear, challenge a man to fight and make lewd comments towards and regarding his former partner.

Sentence was deferred for background reports.

Sarah Healing, the fiscal depute, said the female and the accused were in a relationship and had four children- but had since separated.

She continued: "The offence took place at about 10pm.

"He (Darroch) arrived outside and the accused started shouting and bawling (to the male), trying to goad him into fighting."

Darroch's former partner came into street to attempt to calm him down and neighbours came into the street to try to resolve the situation too.

Police were called and the accused was taken to Clydebank Police office where he was cautioned and charged.

Darroch's defence solicitor said in mitigation that Darroch and his former partner been together for 15 years but that the accused found out about her new relationship through one of his daughters.

But Sheriff Maxwell Hendry said: "This was shameful behaviour."

Darroch was handed a 12-month supervision order and a restriction of liberty order, prohibiting him to leave his home between 7pm and 7am for the next four months.
