A MAN caught making a nuisance of himself in a West Dunbartonshire street has walked free from court.

Stephen McGlashan, 40, of O'Hare, Bonhill, Alexandria, appeared at Dumbarton Sheriff Court on Tuesday, March 28.

At a previous hearing he admitted that, in Chalmers Street, Clydebank, on December 17 last year, he behaved in a threatening or abusive manner, which was likely to cause a reasonable person to suffer fear and alarm in that he did shout, swear, utter threats of violence and place the lieges in a state of fear and alarm.

McGlashan was handed a community payback order and when the case called back in January Sheriff William Gallacher was suitably satisfied by a submission from McGlashan's defence solicitor Phil Lafferty- and from McGlashan's progress thus far- to remove one stipulation of McGlashan's bail conditions, namely prohibiting him to drink alcohol, although his standard bail conditions remained in place.

At the time Sheriff Gallacher told McGlashan: "You heard my conversation with Mr Lafferty.

"You have to comply with the order in place.

"It's a good effort (so far) but I expect you to keep yourself out of further trouble."

Sentence was further deferred until March 28 when the case called again and McGlashan was ordered to be of good behaviour.

When he returned to the dock last week defence solicitor Phil Lafferty told the sheriff that McGlashan's outstanding hours of unpaid work in the community had been completed and he had only one more month to go in terms of a supervision order.

He said to Sheriff Gallacher said: "I wonder if you might be able to bring this matter to a conclusion. He's kept to his bail conditions and he's done what the court has required of him."

Sheriff Gallacher told McGlashan: "I am prepared to accept that you have done what's required of you."

McGlashan was admonished and dismissed.
