A drug dealer from Renton was jailed for 11 months last week for supplying diazepam.

John Paul Meechan, 36, admitted being concerned in the supply of the class C drug at his home at New Cordale Road and elsewhere between October 2013 and July 2014.

He appeared at Dumbarton Sheriff Court on Tuesday, July 7, for sentence.

Sheriff William Gallacher told him said his conduct was ‘utterly reprehensible’.

He said case called in the context of Meechan ‘trafficking drugs as a means of simply providing funds’.

He added: “I have said many times in this court that the impact of drugs is critical in this community and throughout the whole of Scotland. I would be failing in my public duty if I did not mark the gravity of this offence with the imposition of anything other than a custodial sentence.” He jailed Meechan for 11 months and also ordered a hearing to be held four weeks in a civil action to recover alleged proceeds of crime.
