A RENTON motorist caught driving on the A82 while disqualified has appeared in court.

Harrison Waters also had no insurance when officers pulled him over. The 21-year-old previously admitted the charges and to shouting and swearing at police officers during the incident on June 30 this year.

Waters, of MacBride Way, appeared for sentencing at Dumbarton Sheriff court last week.

Alastair Mitchell, fiscal depute, told the court the incident took place at around 12.05pm.

Mr Mitchell said: “Police officers stopped the accused when he was driving on the A82 trunk road at Dumbarton. Checks were carried out which showed he was disqualified from driving and was uninsured from driving the vehicle.

“He was informed he was under arrest and became abusive towards the officers, shouting ‘get a real job’.” Waters continued speaking to officers in that manner and was taken to Clydebank Police Station.

Scott Adair, defending, told the court reports indicated his client had initially preferred a prison sentence to a community payback order, feeling it would be the easier option.

Having spent some time in custody, however, Mr Adair added that Waters now appeared in court as a ‘chastened young man’.

Sheriff Craig Turnbull ordered Waters to carry out 120 hours of unpaid work within six months. He was placed under supervision for two years and disqualified from holding a driving licence for the same period.
