A DUMBARTON artist is channelling mother nature for his first professional show at Dalmuir Library.

Anton Cavan, a former Our Lady and St Patrick's High School pupil, will present his work in an exhibition between Friday, January 20 and Saturday, February 11 at the Backdoor Gallery.

The exhibition comprises of 11 works, all by Anton, which focus on the ever-changing weather conditions and their impact on the landscape.

Anton told the Reporter: "The work for this show has been created as a reaction to the weather throughout the year and shows the impact it has had on the landscape.

"To communicate this I have created a display that flows with a sense of chronology while keeping each piece as a single work that communicates out with the series.

"Each piece is a representation of the area and conditions in which they were created. All of the works in the show were created in West Dunbartonshire.

"Something I wanted to address in this exhibition is how easy it is to become desensitised to the environment. As a landscape artist it sounds contradictory, but I find myself often passing the same places without appreciating the environment."

The 25-year-old wants to get people focusing on the environment and appreciating the landscapes in the area. Growing up between Gartocharn and Dumbarton he attributes his time at school to helping him understand his affinity for art and how it can be used.

Once set on this course Anton furthered his education obtaining an honours degree in visual art at North Glasgow College. Since then he has focused on building his skill set to find new ways of communicating and creating visual narratives to showcase his ideas and experiences.

Anton added: "I work with any form of media that helps me successfully communicate my experiences, typically with acrylic paint on board or canvas but I often use site specific materials along with this such as soils, grass and sticks."

The exhibition is being set up in conjunction with West Dunbartonshire Libraries and Cultural Services to showcase what the area, and of course Anton, has to offer.
