COUNCILLORS will be asked to approve a new homelessness strategy at a meeting of the housing and communities committee on February 1.

The number of homeless people in West Dunbartonshire has fallen by 18 per cent in the last three years and a report set to be presented at the meeting details the decrease in homeless presentations and outlines plans to help drive down the figures further by offering additional support to help prevent residents becoming homeless.

At the meeting, members will also be asked to approve More Than a Roof – West Dunbartonshire’s Homelessness Prevention and Temporary Accommodation Strategy 2017-2020.

The plan outlines additional support for people particularly vulnerable to the threat of homelessness – including young people, victims of domestic abuse, offenders and those in financial difficulty.

The strategy was created after extensive consultations with residents, community groups and partners and if approved monitoring will be put in place.
