THERE was more than a touch of tartan on display when two primary schools celebrated their cultural identity.
And there was no better week than last week to do it.
Events took place all over the country to celebrate and remember Scotland's greatest Bard Robert Burns, whose birthday fell on Wednesday.
And on Friday pupils and staff at Aitkenbar Primary School and Bonhill Primary School celebrated their 'Scottishness' with a special themed day of events.
At Bonhill PS, among all the other planned events which ran, pupils and staff were entertained with an afternoon of Scottish Highland dancing.
Mark Morrison, a pupil at the school, also had the proud distinction of getting the day underway with a few Scottish songs played on his bagpipe.
And at Aitkenbar PS the Scottish theme continued, as a spokesperson explained:
"Every class took part in our Scottish Day.
"We even invited the parents along and we took a collection which we'll be giving to charity.
"But the day itself was fun. Some kids did a Burns poem and some did a song.
"And some of our older pupils did a medley of Scottish bands and musicians like Wet, Wet Wet and Paulo Nutini.
"We had a lot of fun."
