AT the February meeting of the Lennox Heritage Society, local writer Mary Irvine delivered a talk on the life of Margaret Harrison, a stalwart of the Peace Movement, who died last year after along life in the burgh.
Mary knew Margaret through their joint association with Leven Litts, a writers’ group based in Alexandria, and with the help of Margaret’s family she had gathered reams of written memorabilia and many photographs covering Margaret’s life from her earliest days in Dalreoch.
Many in the audience had known Margaret, as well as her husband Bobby and her sister ‘Bea’ Burnett, but Mary’s research gave much greater understanding of the development of this outstanding character.
The March meeting of the LHS is on Wednesday 8th at 7.30pm in The Concord Community Centre when Jean Scollay will talk about The Transportation of women to Australia.
