AS Scottish Apprenticeship Week gets underway (March 6th – March 10th) Scottish Water have announced what they are doing to encourage people from West Dunbartonshire to get involved.

Using Scottish Water social media channels, including a Facebook live chat with current apprentices, a Twitter Q and A, and online blogs, a potential recruit can get a unique insight into the various roles on offer with the business.

Ailish Lavelle is a current Modern Apprentice at Scottish Water and said: “When I left school I headed off to college to study hospitality management and I soon realised it wasn’t for me. I was racking my brains for what to do next then one day I found myself browsing on the Scottish Water website and reading about all of their Modern Apprenticeship opportunities. I was quite interested in chemistry and I saw that Scottish Water had a range of apprenticeships that included aspects of engineering and science, so I applied for a waste water treatment apprenticeship. I also just generally thought that the opportunities with Scottish Water looked great. It appealed to me as I would be getting paid while I was learning, and getting qualifications as well.”

Recruitment will start this month for the next intake of 30 new Scottish Water apprentices for 2017.

They will be joining one of Scotland’s top businesses which has been widely recognised for the work it does to develop Scotland’s young workforce and encourage young people to join the water industry.
