THE sister of a man who was viciously assaulted after attending his uncle's funeral earlier in the day has launched an appeal to help catch his attackers.

Billy Struthers was beaten so badly that he was rushed to the Royal Alexandra Hospital in Paisley with bleeding on his brain.

It's understood the Haldane man was attacked on what is known locally at Stucky Bridge on Thursday, March 2.

The victim was on his way home after attending a funeral for his late uncle, also known as Billy, during the day.

He had left McKenzie's Bar, in Alexandria's Main Street, before being attacked some time later on, or near, the bridge.

Sister Sharon Spence, from Balloch, has since launched a Facebook appeal for information leading to the conviction of her brother's attacker, or attackers.

She said: "On Thursday night my brother Billy was attacked on the Stucky Bridge coming from McKenzie's Bar.

"We are unsure what route Billy took to get to the bridge."

It's understood that the attack happened some time before 8pm, as Sharon explained: "He was picked up by ambulance at 8pm and is in Paisley with bleeding in the brain and very confused.

"I am urging anyone who seen him to come forward, this has been a terrible thing to happen to him.

"Those who know my brother know what he has went through in the past."

Inspector John Mullen, of Dumbarton Police Office, said the victim was taken to hospital with a head injury, but details of incident could not be established at the time.

He did confirm, however, that inquiries are ongoing in order to confirm the details and the circumstances.

If you have any information about the assault you can contact police in the non-emergency telephone number of 101.
