The council elections on May 4 will give local people a chance to elect a council who will not just pay lip service to their concerns about the quantity and quantity of local services and jobs, but will work with local people to come up with solutions to the issues they face in their local communities.

The Community Party genuinely believe many solutions to problems faced by communities, can be found from within those communities themselves.

The autocratic top down model used by the current Labour council needs to be scrapped and replaced with an empowering model where local people are at the heart of the decision making process which needs to be open, democratic, accountable, accessible, and inclusive.

The Community Party will campaign and argue for:

– Tenants & Residents to have places on Council Committees with full voting rights.

– Establishment of local elected area Committees for Alexandria, Dumbarton & Clydebank.

– Councillor’s to be full time, holding regular weekly surgeries.

– A return to monthly Council Meetings in the evenings, where policy is publicly debated and agreed.

– Decision making returned to elected Councillor’s, instead of unelected officers.

– Abolish means testing for Care of the Elderly services, as a start.

– Return of all services including A & E, Maternity and Mental Health, to re-establish the Vale Hospital again.

– Every housing development in West Dunbartonshire having a minimum of 25% units for affordable rent.

– Poverty inducing Zero Hour Contracts to be abolished in the Council and replaced with secure contracts.

– Include Parent’s and Teacher’s in helping to democratise, re-design, and improve our Educational Services.

– Halt and reverse the privatisation of our public services.

The Community Party has a broad mix of experience and youth in our membership and we will fight tirelessly for the rights of local people and to improve local services.

All public representatives will be accessible and accountable on a daily basis. Consider giving your local Community Party candidate your first vote on May 4.
