THE Boys’ Brigade has launched the Juniors 100 Challenge as part of its celebrations for 100 years of working with eight to 11-year olds.

It is a year of celebration for members of the Juniors’ age group, and the young people are being encouraged to complete 100 challenges including activities like taking part in a world record attempt, learning basic first aid skills, raising £100 for a local charity or trying-out a new sport.

Members will be getting active, being creative, learning new skills, exploring and being adventurous whilst helping others in their local communities.

In September members, up and down the country will join together for ‘The Big 100 Birthday Party’ to celebrate this significant anniversary.

This will involve looking back at the heritage of the Junior section, sharing stories from this year of celebration and looking to the future and the next 100 years.

The adventure for this age group started back in September 1917 and continues today with more than 16,000 eight to 11-year olds taking part in a fun and active programme across more than 1,300 groups in the United Kingdom and Republic of Ireland.

Bill Stevenson, CEO of The Boys’ Brigade, said: “In celebration of 100 years of the Junior Section, we wanted to encourage members to not only shout about their achievements, but also try something new.

“We want our members to really think big. Whether it’s taking up a new sport, helping out with a local charity or signing up to one of our residential trips, we want to see as many members this year take full advantage of what the BB can offer.

“We want to encourage young people to reach their true potential and explore new exciting activities, all essential in the developing years these members are going through.”

The celebrations will run right through 2017 and actively encourage BB members and local communities to get together and celebrate the section’s milestone anniversary.
