A RENTON man who's battling a drug addiction and making efforts to help other users has been admonished for a possession charge.

At a previous hearing Dumbarton Sheriff Court was told that 33-year-old Mark Fleming was making good progress with rehabilitation services – and that he was using his own experiences to help others in a similar position.

Fleming, of Stirling Street, had pleaded guilty at a previous court hearing to having a quantity of cocaine in his possession at his home address on September 25, 2015.

A not guilty plea to possession of a quantity of cannabis at the same time was accepted by prosecutors.

Fleming's solicitor told the court his client attended daily sessions to deal with his addiction issues and to prevent any relapses, and that he had come off methadone since his last court appearance.

At that previous hearing Sheriff Maxwell Hendry said he would have admonished Fleming had it not been for the separate matter on which he was still awaiting sentence.

“I accept that the further offence was some time ago,” the sheriff said. “I would have admonished you, but I want you to show that you can stay out of trouble for another three months."

He added: "I also just say 'well done' for the work that you appear to be doing with other drug users."

When the case returned to court presiding Sheriff William Gallacher was told that Fleming had been of good behaviour.

Sheriff Gallacher said: "You've kept out of trouble, so you're simply admonished."
