IONA CAMPBELL proved she was head girl at the recent Stirlingshire Schools cross country championships, held on Stirling University's campus.

Competing in the under-14 events, the Balloch girl ran the 2200 metre course in a tremendous time of 7min 10sec to take gold for Balfron High School.

Another class act that caught the eye in winning the Primary seven event at the Dunbartonshire Schools cross country was talented Michael Eyton, who covered the Goldenhill Park course in a finely-tuned run to win the title.

Meanwhile, two age group teams competed at the Scottish indoor finals at the Kelvin Hall. The under-20 men faced a tough task but their recent form suggested that the Posties Park team were up for it, finishing second overall.

Kevin Madden showed blistering speed in the 60m, running 7:47 and 24:83 for the 200m. Gerard Gardiner set a personal best in the high jump with 1.60m. Brian Doherty showed no mercy as he broke his own Scottish league record in the shot putt, throwing 12.83m.
