FISH has found a favourite place in the menu of school children, and hooked them a prestigious award in the process.
A fresh fish initiative by West Dunbartonshire Council’s (WDC) Catering team, has picked up best runner-up at the Seafood awards in London. The awards, organised by industry body Seafish, recognise enterprise, innovation and sustainability in the UK seafood industry.
In WDC, the eating of fish has rocketed thanks to an initiative by the Catering team as the pupils at Aitkenbar Primary in Bellsmyre, Dumbarton, showed.
EllenMcFarlane, Catering area manager said: “Getting children to recognise, eat and even cook a variety of fish has all been part of the initiative, with children being offered everything from salmon to baby octopus.”
