THE heartbroken brother of Stuart Mclevy, who tragically died following a jet ski accident last Saturday, has told The Reporter he will never get over it.

Jayson Mclevy and his siblings – Darran, 32, and 23-year-old TJ – are still coming to terms with the loss of their beloved "baby" brother, who he described as a "happy-go-lucky guy".

The 28-year-old said the Yoker band of brothers were a "unit", who were always looking out for each other and spending the majority of time outdoors, never arguing – "not even once" – in all of Stuart's 21 years.

Now the group has been left shattered knowing their brother will no longer be able to take part in their treasured traditions or celebrate important family milestones, such as the christening of Jayson's newborn daughter, Harley, for which Stuart – who doted on the tot – had been selected to be a Godfather.

Jayson said: "I just cannot accept what has happened. I will never get over this.

"I truly hope there's an afterlife because that's all that could possibly keep me going – the hope I will get to see him again."

He added: "He always said I was the boss when we were all out, but that because he was the baby of the family, and my baby brother. I was always on at him trying to keep him on the right path.

"I just hope he knows how much I loved him and wanted the best for him."

At around 9.15pm on Saturday, May 6, police and emergency services were notified that Stuart, of Hawick Street, was unresponsive after falling into the water from a jet ski as a passenger.

A 37-year-old man, the driver of the jet ski, was also injured as a result of the incident, which happened on Loch Lomond, north of the island of Inchmurrin.

Members of the public rushed to help the pair and took them to a slipway in nearby Balloch, where paramedics attended. But that night Stuart was pronounced dead at the Royal Alexandra Hospital.

A post mortem will be conducted to establish the exact cause of death.

Stuart, an avid bodybuilder, was no stranger to adventurous sport and he often spending his days training in the gym and taking part in brave challenges such as mountain climbing.

Last year, all his hard work paid off when he competed in the Junior Mr Scotland competition.

Fitness was a hobby each of the brotherly foursome shared and it was one that kept the Mclevy unit closely bonded.

Jayson added: "He kept asking me to start training with him again and I've been so tangled up in my life with buying my first house, working and having my first baby, that I never got round to starting a campaign with him.

"We climb Ben Nevis every year, this year we climbed it on January 5, his birthday. Now every mountain I climb is in his honour.

"I can only hope he is watching me and is proud of what I do in his honour."

The apple of Stuart's eye, however, was his mum, 55-year-old Catherine, whom he "adored".

Stuart was a "real mummy's boy" Jayson said, stating his brother was always with her "like a bodyguard" who never left her side.

When he wasn't with family, he was surrounded by friends and his partner Lauren – who described him as a "legend", a "true gentleman" and the "funniest guy".

Relatives and pals helped to raise around almost £6,000 for his funeral in just a few days, after Jayson set up a Crowdfunding page.

Jayson said: "He made me a better person always telling me to let things go, don't dwell on this or that just crack on.

"I know he would be saying that to me now but the hole I have in my life now can never be filled.

"I can't believe this is real life and we will never climb another mountain together or go out for a few beers again or even just chill in the house watching a movie and eating nachos – because that was must on a Sunday – movie, nachos with hundreds of jalapenos."

Police enquiries are ongoing to determine the circumstances surrounding Stuart's death.

The driver was released from hospital after receiving treatment for minor injuries.

Inspector John Mullen, of Dumbarton Police Station, said: “One man has died and another man is receiving treatment following this incident. We understand Stuart Mclevy fell from the jet ski and entered the water.

“The 37-year-old man who was driving also entered the water and attempted to assist.

“Other individuals who were also on the water on private vessels quickly came to the aid of both men and brought them back to shore at the Duncan Mills Memorial Slipway at Balloch where paramedics could take over.

“At this time I am appealing to anyone who may have witnessed the incident from the shoreline to contact officers at Dumbarton Police Station via 101.

“Our enquiries are continuing to establish the circumstances surrounding this incident.

"Any information you have, no matter how small, could greatly assist our enquiry.”
