The historic birthplace of Formula One legend Sir Jackie Stewart has been put up for sale by its owners with a guide price of £199,500.

Rockview, which is on Stirling Road in Dumbarton, is where the racing icon lived with his family for the first 23 years of his life, and was where his mother Jeannie gave birth to him on the dining room table.

The property even includes a commemorative blue plaque from Historic Environment Scotland celebrating the birthplace of Sir Jackie.

It's currently owned by Damon and Elaine Lindsay, with Damon's dad John remaining a close friend of the racing legend.

Elaine told the Reporter: "Jackie's always popping in when he's around and in the area for a bit of lunch and absolutely loves to have his cheese and chutney sandwiches.

"It's almost become a normal thing to see Jackie around and he will be sad to see the house go on to the market and we actually joked about whether he wanted to transport it to his estate brick by brick. He actually thought about it for a second before turning it down!"

Estate agents Macarthur Stanton are hoping that the famous lineage of the three-bedroom property will help find a buyer.

The brochure on the firm's website says: "Rockview is the birthplace of Sir Jackie Stewart, Scotland's most famous racing driver, prominently placed is a commemorative plaque recognising his achievements. It sits in an attractive area of garden ground and the rear garden back on to farmland. There is ample off-street parking and a timber shed. The area offers a wide variety of sporting and leisure facilities as well as excellent shopping, and is a short drive from the Loch Lomond and Trossachs National Park which offers a wide range of outdoor pursuits."

Elaine says that the house's history has attracted some visitors in the past, curious about its racing heritage.

She added: "There have been quite a few people who have stopped and taken pictures of the plaque and the house itself.

"Ultimately, I think if someone wants the house, then they'll buy it for what's there rather than all of the background."

Sir Jackie has spoken in the past of his family home, where he stayed before moving to Helensburgh with wife Helen, spending his time working in his father's garage in the town - RP Stewart and Sons.

He won three F1 world championship crowns during his racing career - including 23 race wins, 43 podium positions and started 17 races from pole position on the grid.

Following his retirement, Sir Jackie stayed on television as a racing pundit and has been an active charity fundraiser, most recently setting up the Race for Dementia charity in support of his wife Helen, who is affected by the condition.

He was also knighted in 2001 and made a Freeman of West Dunbartonshire in 2009 - one of only seven people to have been given the honour.
