Properties in West Dunbartonshire are not opening as part of Doors Open Day this year, but lovers of architecture and historic buildings need not feel left out.

For a fascinating rage of venues will be opening to the public in nearby areas in the coming weeks.

Just 30 minutes from Dumbarton, Helensburgh and surrounding area - which has an array of architectural gems and historic churches - is taking part in the scheme for the first time in several years.

They include Cardross Parish Church, Clarendon House, Helensburgh Civic Centre, Helensburgh Parish Church, Hill House, the MacKintosh Club, Rhu and Shandon Church, The Royal Northern and Clyde Yacht Club, St Mahew's Church, St Michael and All Angels Church and St Peter's Seminary.

All will take part in the event running over the weekend of September 23 and 24.

Meanwhile, Glasgow's Doors Open Days Festival programme from September 11 to 17 features no less than 116 buildings, 50 walks and tours, plus special events and activities happening across the city.

They include all the city's main attractions, plus a variety of other lesser know venues.

Across the Clyde in Inverclyde, the newly refurbished Custom House on Greenock’s waterfront will be the centrepiece of this year’s Doors Open Days in Inverclyde. Completed in 1818 the Grade A listed building has been transformed into high quality office suites.

Inverclyde's 32 venues open to the public on Saturday 9 and Sunday 10 September will also include the Ferguson shipyard.

Dumbarton's Doors Open Day events now run every other year. Its 2016 programme was widely supported.
